Two UFC Fighters Cut After Mexico City Card: Bunes & Medina Free Agent Status Explained (2026)

Two fighters, Felipe Bunes and Jose Daniel Medina, have been removed from the UFC roster following their recent defeats at the Mexico City event on February 28th. Bunes, who joined the UFC in 2024 after winning the LFA flyweight title, lost his debut to future champion Joshua Van. He then rebounded with a first-round armbar over Jose Johnson, but suffered back-to-back losses to Rafael Estevam and Edgar Chairez. Medina, a former champion in local promotions in South America, joined the UFC with a loss to Magomed Gadzhiyasulov on the Contender Series in October 2023. He has since lost all four of his UFC bouts, including a knockout by Ryan Gandra in just 41 seconds in Mexico. Both fighters are now free agents, with Bunes' record at 1-3 and Medina's at 11-7.
